We recently welcomed Vanita Sharma, a member of our Indian development team, to spend a period of two months at our Dublin HQ. In this article, she discusses her experience of travelling from India to work in Ireland.
At Monsoon Consulting, we embrace our diverse culture and multinational teams. Furthermore, we believe in continuous development, where we encourage colleagues to take part in knowledge sharing and upskilling where possible.
Vanita Sharma is a Certified Magento Developer and experienced software engineer based in our office in Jaipur, India. Having worked with us since April last year, Vanita was delighted when an opportunity came up to spend some time working in our Dublin office. This placement would offer Vanita the chance to work alongside our other talented Magento developers in Ireland, in collaboration with our designers, QA analysts, digital marketers and support team;
"The best part for me was getting to work with people from all different countries. I got to see a different culture and experience a new working environment that is very different to India. My time here in Dublin allowed me to gain confidence working through English."
Despite having worked within cross-functional, agile teams remotely from Jaipur, Vanita enjoyed engaging with her teammates in a face-to-face setting;
"It was great to be able to interact and communicate directly with my colleagues in Ireland. This was a chance for me to get to know everybody and to get a better understanding of what is expected of the Indian team. We were able to discuss any issues openly and how best to resolve potential problems in the future."
Another highlight of working at the Dublin office was the additional training Vanita received from colleagues working in other disciplines. This provided her with a deeper understanding of some of the work processes across Dev Ops, Digital Marketing, QA and more.
Outside of the office, Vanita enjoyed many social activities with her fellow workmates, and even got to see some of Ireland's most popular visitor locations, such as the Giant's Causeway and the Cliffs of Moher.
For Vanita, this was actually her first time abroad. So, there were some obvious differences between life in India and Ireland. She did encounter some challenges during her stay, notably getting to grips with the current rental market in Dublin! Eating out often had its difficulties - as a vegetarian accustomed to traditional Indian cuisine, there were sometimes limited options on the menu. But once she got settled into her accommodation with cooking facilities, Vanita could enjoy homemade dishes again. She would often bring in home-cooked treats for her colleagues to try, much to the delight of the Monsoon team!
Overall, Vanita is very happy with her time spent working in Ireland and believes that this experience will definitely add value to her professional profile.
