Digital transformation for Ireland’s Central Bank Collector Coin division

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Central Bank of Ireland’s venture into eCommerce, with the launch of their first online coin store, marked a significant digital leap. Collaborating from 2016 to 2022, they developed a responsive, multi-language website on Magento Commerce.

This platform, featuring custom design and functionalities like coin previews and detailed product information, transformed their customer experience and streamlined internal sales processes, receiving positive feedback from the Bank​​​​.

The Central Bank of Ireland acts as an agent for the Minister for Finance in issuing all Irish coins, both circulating and commemorative. Irish collector coin products are issued to celebrate and pay tribute to figures of national importance and to commemorate significant events in Irish history. Typically four to five new products are launched each year.

Prior to this project, the selling of these coins was only offline. The goal was to implement an eCommerce solution to facilitate the user experience and their internal processes.

During the period of 2016 to 2022, we worked together in the creation of the website’s responsive designs and the implementation of the eCommerce solution using Magento Commerce.

OUR SOLUTIONS

Using the Scrum agile methodology, we worked sprint by sprint with the Central Bank of Ireland’s team, to develop their first eCommerce store, built on Magento Commerce.

  • Custom responsive design in accordance with the Bank website’s graphic chart

  • Custom attributions to inform the customer about all the details of the coins (diameter, fineness, issue limit)

  • Preview functionality to allow the customer to discover new coins/coins sets before their official launch

  • Multi-language website, English/Gaelige(Irish)

  • Custom shipping integration to display the shipping price depending on the customer shipping address

THE RESULTS

Our solution during 2016 to 2022 for the Central Bank eCommerce platform offered a unique customer experience. The use of high-quality imagery, the customer is immersed in the area they are researching (history, science) to offer them the best user journey.

During our engagement, The Central Bank of Ireland gave only positive feedback regarding the new website and their internal sales process has been simplified with the functionalities offered by Magento and our custom development.
